Director NCC, Brig GS Fonseka USP psc paid an official visit to 2nd and 23rd battalions on 28 June 2023.First he arrived at Provincial Headquarters of the Central Province and the Headquarters of the 23rd battalion which are located in the same premises at Walala, Manikhinna.The Director was received and warmly welcomed by Col Palitha Erawpola, Provincial Deputy Director- Central Province and Lt Col AMD Adhikari, Commanding Officer of 23rd battalion. Officers and the Permanent Staff Instructors of the battalion were introduced to Director NCC by the Commanding Officer of the battalion. Later, starting the inspection tour in the camp premises, Director NCC planted a mangosteen sapling, marking his visit to 23rd battalion.A presentation on the progress of the battalion was presented by the Commanding Officer before exchanging mementos and all officers posed for a group photograph with the Director NCC.After the visit to 23rd battalion, Director NCC arrived at the Auditorium of the Governor’s Office of Central Province to address the officers, principals and Permanent Staff Instructors of the 2nd and 23rd battalions.After the welcome speech made by the Provincial Deputy Director, the Director NCC addressed the officers, principals and Permanent Staff Instructors of the two battalions.He emphasized the probable changes and developments that could take place in future under the way forward plan designed by the State Minister of Defence, Secretary Defence and the Director NCC for the betterment of cadets and the resultant progress.Under this plan the Director mentioned about an intermediate camp located closer to Northern Province, renovations at NCC Training Centre, Rantambe, registration of more cadet platoons grooming more future leaders, enlistment of thousand officers to increase the number of officers and sending officers and cadets overseas while having SAARC Cadets at Hermann Loss and De Soysa Camps in October, under the Youth Exchange Programme among SAARC countries.Next the Director NCC visited the 2nd battalion. Customarily, the Commanding Officer stood up with the presentation on the progress of the battalion and on his invitation Director NCC visited the two day cadet training camp at Darmaraja College, Kandy where he addressed the cadets of Darmaraja College. The Principal of the school was also present at the occasion.
