Col. Padmalal Perera relinquished duties after performing as the Brigadier Corps Secretary for almost 4 years. He says good bye to his 34 year long cadetting career with his retirement.
It’s really unique that Col Perera, a Past pupil of Sri Sumangala College, Panadura was privileged to be a teacher, a Platoon Commander, Assistant Principal, Deputy Principal and the Principal (over looking duties) of the same school. There by he has done a yeomen service to this historic college.
As far as his Cadetting career is concerned, he was enlisted to NCC Intake 03 as a Probationary Officer in 1989. As a Platoon Commander of 3rd Bn NCC, he was adjudged the Best Commander- Drill, of the Battalion from 1993 to 1999 consecutively.
On his mobilization to NCC, he was appointed the first Adjutant of the newly raised 12th Bn NCC in 2000 and the Commanding Officer of the 8th Bn NCC from 2010 to 2013. As a Staff Officer, he held the appointments of SO I Admin, SO I Supply and Management and SO I Engineering Services at the HQ – NCC. In 2019 he was appointed the Brigadier Corps Secretary and held the appointment till 5 Dec.2022.
This capable Officer has done a golden service to Scouting too. Joining as a scout in 1975, he has climbed the ladder until he reached the appointment of Director Training. He has won many scouting awards. Among them the highest awards were President’s Scout Award in 1980 and the Silver Lion Award in 2016.
Let’s salute this noble officer and gentleman for the yeoman service he rendered to mother Lanka.
